There’s been a widely publicized (and often exaggerated) report that I’m a huge Nutella fan. Well, it’s true, I am a fan and a consumer. I’ve added to that mystique by tweeting about it frequently. I also use the phrase, “All Hail Nutella” in my Twitter profile.
When I first joined Twitter I didn’t have a clue as to what I should write for my Twitter Bio, but I knew I didn’t want it to be blank or boring. I wrote some basic info and then included that bit about Nutella as an afterthought thinking it would be funny. At one time I tried to take the “All Hail Nutella!” out of my profile. People quickly noticed and asked me to put it back. In fact, they said it was the best part of my profile!
Now I do love Nutella, believe me, and at home we might go through a jar of Nutella once or twice a year. Moderation is a good thing, you know, even with Nutella in the cupboard.
What I noticed on Twitter though is that my love of chocolate became part of my shtick. It became part of my online persona, if you will, and it’s been fun connecting with lots of people. In fact, one Twitter friend actually mailed chocolate from Switzerland to our home for our family! While on vacation in Central America another friend (and now a client!) saw a menu with a Nutella dish. She took a pic of the menu item and tweeted to me that it reminded them of me while on vacation.
I had no idea that Nutella could be so powerful and in so many delicious ways.
I tweet about lots of things, humor, social media interests, my kids or whatever crosses my mind at the time, but one thing keeps bringin’ the tweeps back for more. Yep, you got it: Nutella.
They key point is this – I’ve learned that in social media we all need to find our voice (or the voice of our business) and have some fun in gathering and maintaining a following.
Some great examples I look to for examples of Twitter content that have found their online voice include tweeps like:
@tacanderson is a frequent blogger on many topics including digital media and has unique perspectives on PR and Digital Media industry trends.
There are SOOOO many examples and great tweeps to follow. If you’re looking for ideas on what to tweet just think of what your interests and passions are, what makes you laugh, what entertains or topics of interest. You’ll be surprised how many others share your interests and will connect with you.
